Introduction
Hi all Hougang United fanatics. Its been a while since we have posted anything on the fanpage. Hougang has had no senior games since Feb 1st, and we had been busy with our lives and such.
But yeah, finally we DO HAVE a game upcoming on the 22nd February against the Young Lions at the Jalan Besar Stadium. Young Lions v Hougang United, let's go!
Hougang United - Robert Eziakor and the winning patch.
As you all know, coach Robert has led a resurgence of confident victories since he took over in Jan 2025. Three victories, against Balestier Khalsa, Tampines Rovers and a cup win in the Singapore Cup opening weekend against Albirex had most of us hyped up and even considering Hougang to be one of the front runners to appear in three straight Singapore Cup final appearances.
The signing of pairing centrebacks Daniel Alemao and Jovan ‘Mugi’ Mugosa, plus the signing if tenacious veteran wingback Tajeli Selamat had stablised the backline, plus the supersub heroics of Farhan Zulkifli have seen great performances so far from the Singapore International.
Also Dejan Raciic has seen him rose to the 2nd position of the goal standings - he already bagged 19 goals this season, a prolific return for a striker who joined after the third game.
Will Zulfahmi Ariffin be back again for this game?
The question in our minds is whether our setpiece maestro Zulfahmi Ariffin be back for this game. Zul has already bagged two fantastic goals since his return to the Cheetahs. However, he hobbled off in the 34th minute against Albirex the last time round and we heard he had a hamstring strain. Let’s hope he will be back in time for the game against Young Lions. His partnership with fellow veteran midfielder Shahdan Sulaiman have seen stablisation in the Hougang midfield.
Young Lions - the story of our bogey team this season.
The Cubs have never been an easy opponent - we drew them twice this season after leading every half time.
The first was matchday 6 when we drew 2-2 and needed a late OG from Nur Adam to save our arse, and the second was two sucker punches from the Japanese duo Kan Kobayashi and Itsuki Enomoto in the second half when we had led 4-2 at half time.
However, much has changed from the Young Lions team. Their head coach has changed, as Nazri Nasir is away on official FAS duties overseas - Fadzuhasny Juraimi is at the helm now. Itsuki Enomoto is now a Tampines Rovers player - its Kaisei Ogawa and Ethan Pinto leading the line now. And also we know Aizil Yazid in goal - he is on loan from Hougang and one of the most promising goalies to lead our Lions team in the future.
It wont be an easy game - but knowing our current form and Young Lions have been conceding more than two goals for the last five games, I think it wont be the third time lucky for them. Hopefully our team will continue the purple patch of form and climb the table higher - this will see us closing up to Albirex and Balestier from a 12 point difference to one.
Lets go Cheetahs, it's time to climb #1H1H!!
